This week we had a visit from Marcina, a classical Indian dance teacher as part of our celebration of Diwali. During the workshop the children acted out the story of Rama and Sita and, as you can see from the photo, our Year 2 children particularly enjoyed taking on the role of Hanuman’s monkey army.
Marcina also shared with us how the festival is celebrated amongst our Hindu friends and families. At the end of the day the workshop was opened up to all St. Mary’s families and it was a delight to see lots of younger siblings joining in with the dance.
Throughout the week the children took part in a number of activities to celebrate this festival of light. Reception experimented with ‘henna’ patterns, Year 1 designed their own rangoli pictures and Year 2 made lanterns.
Our hall displays this term are all linked to different festivals of light. Year 1 have a bonfire display, Year 2 a display about Hanukkah and Reception a Diwali display. Do pop in and take a look.
